Go for the Extra Degree!

Finish Strong!

We are finally here!  The finish line is in our sight!  Now is NOT the time to give up or throw in the towel!  This is the time for you to sprint your way through the finish line!  Complete what you have set out to do...

This quarter will be devoted to a comprehensive review for the AP Exam.  This review should be a significant help to those of you who plan to take the exam.  For those of you who are not planning to take the exam, this should still be a productive way to end the year since you will probably retake this course in college.

We have covered hundreds of terms and concepts, so I feel that it is necessary to do an extensive review to bring this course together.  We will do this by taking several review quizzes, practicing on AP Practice Exams, and by doing a fourth quarter project related to the material we have covered.

It will be important during the review period to develop consistent study habits with a concentration on general terms since the AP Exam will focus mostly on these types of concepts rather than very specific ones.  You will also need to focus on the chapters or units where you had weaknesses during the year.  Most of you had at least one or two problem units.  I suggest you review these units on your own in addition to our class review.

**Below I have posted several power points, in addition to various links to assist you in the review process.  Use them!  They are valuable resources.

Required Reference Books:

We will use the following books to review for the AP Exam. You are REQUIRED to purchase both of these reference books, either new or used and several note cards. I only have a few of each to be used for class.

These books are to be purchased NO LATER than March 19, 2009!

  • 5 Steps to a 5:  Laura Lincoln Maitland or Barron’s or Kaplan’s 2009 AP Psychology Review
  • Essentials of Psychology I and II:  Linda Leal (Publisher:  REA) or Super Review Psychology I and II:  Linda Leal (Publisher:  REA)

Review Quizzes:

We will take twelve review quizzes during the quarter.  Each of these will be preceded with an in-depth review of the material.  You will take all of these with a partner and will be allowed to discuss your answers with him or her.  This dialogue should be helpful since you will be in effect teaching each other.  One review quiz will be a collaboration with your partner of prior AP exam free response questions and the other eleven will be objective tests over the following units:

·      Quiz 1 – Neurobiology (Chapter 2) on April 13

·      Quiz 2 – Developmental Psychology (Chapters 3 and 4) on April 14

·      Quiz 3 – Sensation and Perception (Chapters 5 and 6)  on April 15

·      Quiz 4 – States of Consciousness and History of Psychology (Chapters 7 and Pro.) on April 16

·      Quiz 5 – Learning and Memory (Chapters 8 and 9) on April 20

·      Quiz 6 – Cognition Chapters (Chapters 10 and 11)  on April 21

·      Quiz 7 – Motivation and Emotion (Chapters 12 and 13)  on April 22

·      Quiz 8 – Stress and Personality (Chapters 14 and 15)  on April 27

·      Quiz 9 – Mental Disorders and Treatment/Therapies (Chapters 16 and 17) on April 28

·      Quiz 10 – Social Psychology (Chapter 18)  on April 29

·      Quiz 11 – Methods of Research in Psychology (Chapter 1)  on April 30

·     ** Quiz 12 – Two Prior AP Exam Free Response Questions  on April 23

 AP Practice Exams:

We will take up to four practice AP Exams in class this quarter.  Your results will count as a standard test score.  These practice tests should serve as a fairly good barometer of how prepared you are to take the exam this year.

Test 1 on April 1

Test 2 on April 17

Test 3 on April 24

Test 4 on May 1

Attendance and Tardies:
It will be imperative to have good attendance and promptness to class this quarter. Keep in mind that over a three-week period, I will have to monitor nearly one thousand quizzes.  I am willing to make this review period very worthwhile so all of you have a good chance of passing the AP Exam, but I NEED your full cooperation and best efforts during this time period. Therefore, there will be
NO make-up quizzes.
